Illinois Gun Law Attorneys
Our team of prior law enforcement and former prosecutors can help you protect
your rights. We are strong 2nd Amendment advocates! Members of Johnson Law Group are FOID and Conceal
Carry permit holders, understand the importance of your right to carry,
and will protect your rights under the law. You have a right to have a
gun under our Constitution, and when the government tries to take that
right away for any reason, going it alone could cost you dearly. Our team
of prior law enforcement and former prosecutors can help you protect your rights.
We at Johnson Law Group know every case is different and we offer proactive
steps to our clients in the event that they are under investigation or even
charged with a gun-related matter or shooting. It is important for you to know your rights BEFORE any questions
are answered or any statement is given. Contacting an attorney after a
gun-related incident has already occurred may be too late. The immediate
steps a person takes after an incident has occurred are vital, and it’s
important that you know how to proceed if you are unable to reach your attorney.
We have helped people at every stage, whether due to a criminal charge
or something else, from representing them in the criminal court up and
through full reinstatement of their rights under the law to possess and
carry firearms. Whether it's at an administrative hearing or in the
trial court, Johnson Law Group is there for you.
Handling FOID Card & Conceal Carry Permit Challenges Head-On
Has your application for a FOID Card or Conceal Carry Permit even been
processed yet, or has your existing card or permit been cancelled, suspended,
or revoked? Are you concerned you have no one on your side when the State
comes after you?
When you apply for a FOID Card, the State Police have 30 days to act on
that application, and when you apply for a Conceal Carry Permit, the State
Police have 90 days to act on that application. Frequently, the State
Police fails to act on applications within the required timeframe. In
fact, more than a third of all FOID card applicants are not even processed
within the required 30 days.* Even when an application is denied, the
State Police fails to notify the applicant within the required time period,
and thousands of cards are never delivered even after being granted.*
There are a lot of reasons why the government might seek to cancel, suspend,
or revoke a FOID Card or Conceal Carry Permit, after which the government
frequently won't listen to reason. This is true even when a person
has only been accused of an offense in a case that is pending. This is
routine for the government to do: on average, more than 18 cards are revoked
per day!* Frequently, perfect law-abiding citizens do everything right
and find themselves the subject of a police investigation that could affect
their rights, but they don't know where to turn. The government won't
help you, and, in fact, 85% of people calling the State Police with questions
never spoke to a single person.*
What if I have to draw or fire my weapon?
We know you have questions, and we have answers. People often come to us
with concerns about their right to self-defense, such as “What if
I have to draw my weapon to protect myself?” or “What if I
have to fire my gun to save others from an attacker?” Whether you’re
concerned about these issues in the interests of safeguarding your rights
or if you’ve already been involved in a situation and need help
avoiding legal problems, we can help. Our attorneys are ready to investigate
the situation and help assemble favorable evidence and witnesses who can
support your side of the story. If you’ve been contacted for questioning
by law enforcement, make sure that you maintain a respectful attitude
and express your appreciation for their duty to ensure that the law has
been followed, but politely insist on having your attorney present during
questioning. You may not have anything to hide, but it is important that
you avoid mistakenly making statements that could incriminate you.
