Mostly every state has several charges that are applicable to the same offense. What this means is that there are any number of ways – and any number of offenses for which – a person could be charged for committing the same act. As a result, it is up to the prosecutor’s office to decide not just whether to charge an offense, but what offenses to charge a person with.
